Why is Scientology a religion?

Scientology meets all three criteria generally used by religious scholars when examining religions: (1) a belief in some Ultimate Reality, such as the Supreme Being or eternal truth that transcends the here and now of the secular world; (2) religious practices directed toward understanding, attaining or communicating with this Ultimate Reality; and (3) a community of believers who join together in pursuing the Ultimate Reality.

Scientology’s belief in an Ultimate Reality that transcends the material world include its concepts of the thetan, the spiritual world (the seventh dynamic) and the Supreme Being (the eighth dynamic). The second element can be found in Scientology’s life-rite ceremonies such as naming, marriage and funeral services, but predominantly in the religious services of auditing and training, through which Scientologists increase their spiritual awareness and attain an understanding of the spiritual world and, ultimately, their relationship with the Supreme Being. As to the third element, a very vital community of believers can be found at any church of Scientology at almost any time of the day.

Scientology is thus a religion in the oldest sense of the word. Scientology helps man become more aware of God, more aware of his own spiritual nature and that of those around him. Scientology Scripture recognizes that there is an entire dynamic (urge or motivation in life) devoted to the Supreme Being (the eighth dynamic) and another dynamic that deals solely with one’s urge toward existence as a spirit (the seventh dynamic). Acknowledgment of these aspects of life is a traditional characteristic of religions.

Divisions of LIFE.

There could be said to be eight urges (drives, impulses) in life. These we call dynamics. These are motives or motivations. We call them the eight dynamics.
The first dynamic – is the urge toward existence as one's self. Here we have individuality expressed fully. This can be called the self dynamic.
The second dynamic – is the urge toward existence a sexual or bisexual activity. This dynamic actually has two divisions. Second dynamic (a) is the sexual act itself and the second dynamic (b) is the family unit, including the rearing of children. This can be called the sex dynamic.
The third dynamic – is the urge toward existence in groups of individuals. Any group or part of an entire class could be considered to be part of the third dynamic. The school, the society, the town, the nation are each part of the third dynamic, and each one is a third dynamic. This can be called he group dynamic.
The fourth dynamic – is the urge toward existence as mankind. Whereas the white race would be considered a third dynamic, all the races would be considered the fourth dynamic. This can be called the mankind dynamic.
The fifth dynamic – is the urge toward existence of the animal kingdom. This includes all living things whether vegetable or animal. The fish in the sea, the beasts of the field or of the forest, grass, trees, flowers, or anything directly and intimately motivated by life. This could be called the animal dynamic.
The sixth dynamic – is the urge toward existence as the physical universe. The physical universe is composed of matter, energy, space and time. In Scientology we take the first letter of each word and coin a word, MEST. This can be called the universe dynamic.
The seventh dynamic – is the urge toward existence as or of spirits. Anything spiritual, with or without identity would come under the heading of the seventh dynamic. This can be called the spiritual dynamic.
The eighth dynamic – is the urge toward existence as infinity. This is also identified as the Supreme Being. It is carefully observed here that the science of Scientology does not intrude into the dynamic of the Supreme Being. This is called the eighth dynamic because the symbol of infinity ꝏ stood upright makes the numeral “8.” This can be called the infinity or God dynamic.

ANTI-DRUG MESSAGES IN THE MEDIA ARE WORKING!

Youth who reported hearing prevention messages are less likely to turn to drugs.

For many years now the anti-drug movement in America has been using Public Service Announcements (PSAs) to deliver messages on television, radio, in print media and now online about the dangers and consequences of using drugs. From Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No", to an egg in a frying pan, to funding terrorism, some of the more famous campaigns that were used did little more than create "product recognition" while others have had a huge impact on deterrence.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) issued a report demonstrating that the vast majority of youth ages 12 to 17 (more than 20 million) are receiving drug and alcohol prevention messages through the media. The report also showed that those who have been exposed to such messages are significantly less likely to abuse drugs.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) shows that not only are 83 percent of teens hearing these anti-drug messages, but the messages are making an impact.

The survey also indicated the crucial role parents play in keeping their children drug-free. The report stated that youth who had talked with a parent about the dangers of drug use were less likely to report past month illicit drug use than those who had not.

According to a supervisor at Narconon Arrowhead, "Communicating the truth about drugs to our nation's youth requires more than just a message. The information is best delivered by someone with real-life experience on the subject and provides something more than what they read in a health class text book."

Though it is not likely that a single 60-second PSA will completely change someone's mind about drugs, repetition of message with insightful information can go a long way in the fight to prevent drug use. This is an important reminder as much of the nation's schools begin their fall semester this month.

This post is to describe to everyone what to concentrate on when faced with a challenge. Focus on the game as a player, not as the coach or the umpire, just get the ball to the other end and through the goals.

Following is a success story that happened when the game was played for the fun and hard work.

Making things go RIGHT

I don't really know where to start as I have been backlogged with writing my successes, which have been many. First of all I must say that while I was listening to the Congresses I had a major change of knowledge, knowingness and ability. And these things were not just in my universe but became successes in the physical universe, on and from my dynamics.
For example in April, Management asked me and my Mission to do a sprint and become the first city on the planet with more auditors then psychiatrists. I liked the game and immediately accepted the idea. However when I got to know the time target to do this, I almost fainted. I thought I had to do it for 13 March (2006). We were in April 2005, I thought 226 auditors was a tough target but I could play it. No ... the order of magnitude was different, I had "a little" less time: I did not have ten months, I had about 18 DAYS; the cycle was supposed to be finished by the Maiden Voyage.
I almost fainted, but I looked at it and knew that the people who were asking me to take the game would have accepted that I didn't take the game, but they wouldn't accept "I can't make it." So... we decided to play the game, and play it hard. This didn't mean "let's see if we can make it" which is spectatorism. But as I understood from the Games Congress, it meant to completely take the IDENTITY and BEINGNESS of the PLAYER needed for the game.
In the past I was focusing on the idea of losing or winning. Now I understand better, I concentrate on the GAME. I'm not the referee, I'm not a spectator of the match, I'm the PLAYER in the game. In essence what I understood is that when you are on the field, it doesn't matter if you maybe don't make it or if you don't have time or other idiotic stuff. Think of a football player with that attitude, which hat would he be wearing? No, the right thing is just to concentrate on the game, and the purpose and win. Not on the possible win or lose (how many times did we stop on the Bridge to contemplate the mechanics of money, time and so forth that are "stopping" us from making it instead of taking our role in the game and simply DOING the next step?). So what I COULD do was to "concentrate on the ball" and play hard.
Well, it wasn't easy to make more than 100 auditors in 15 days, while we were reactivating the 140 made since the beginning of the year. The Games Congress and the London Congress on Human Problems helped a lot. At one point I didn't know anymore what to do, but the last lecture from the London Congress on Human Problems gave me the answer. Up to that point I was afraid of ARC breaking people. I knew the stops were coming from failed purposes (HCO PL OT Orgs), but I didn't understand how to rehabilitate them in day to day life. I knew these were handled in session with the E-meter, but I didn't know how to do it in life. The answer was in these lectures.
We were in the middle of a huge activity and as soon as the activity was showing signs of slow-down I sat down and mocked up something to increase the purpose. I mean, if the activity, which at that point was being pushed on hourly basis, was showing some sign of faltering for half an hour, I applied the data and the activity would pick up again.
I used the data from these two Congresses a lot. Once I asked my PES "Andrea, how many times we did manage to get 20 starts on service in one week in the last years?" and he said to me "Well, once with a seminar, maybe twice, but without seminars we never did 20 starts in one week."
The handling? We did 27 starts THAT DAY!!!
And any time I was starting to think that we couldn't make it, I would sit down to work out a way to increase the purpose. Just some simple action to put attention on the purpose and get out of the mud. One day in full crisis I went off and listened to four lectures from the Congresses, I come out of it with my purpose back in fully. In the end my group, not just myself, came out winning from this “tour de force”, and SMI Int came to my Mission to award us.
I won't tell you about the other games within the game, such as to renovate the Mission because Int Management people were coming. It started as a cleaning cycle, but after 30 minutes we had already pulled down two walls and destroyed the air conditioning system and we had five days to handle it, in addition to the production and double the work to do. It was wonderful to eat pizza with my friends at 4 o'clock in the morning under the stars, during breaks in the renovations. These have been 3 intense weeks, to say the least.
In the end we made it: Modena is the first city in the world with more auditors than psychs and the Mission has been completely renovated. This would never been possible without the knowledge in the first Congresses: we wouldn't have been good enough, we would have restrained ourselves for fear of creating ARC breaks. Instead the ones that enjoyed it the most were the Scientologists of Modena who came out of this evolution stronger and winning.
I repeat: this wouldn't have been possible without the use of the data contained in the Congresses.
